I have caravanned and motorhomed for much of my life, I started as a child in the 1970’s visiting large sites for our holidays and rallies throughout the year and have done so in my own right for the last 30 plus years.  Together with my wife, Andi, we have attended over 1,500 rallies and visited every centre in the UK.

Started caravanning with my parents in 1967. Joined Caravan Club in my own rights in 1981 as Worcestershire Centre member and have now done over 1100 rallies, visiting most of the UK and many European countries over the years. Served on Centre committee for 14 years as rally secretary, Vice Chairman & Chairman. Have now served on West Central committee as Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman and now Treasurer.

I caravanned as a child with my parents, during the school summer holidays, travelling all over the UK and Europe. Then I grew out of caravanning literally as I found the bunk too small to sleep comfortably. In 2002, we were house hunting and a property we viewed and liked had a CL on part of the land. We bought Birch Hill Ellesmere and the rest is history, including winning a number of awards – CL of the Year, the CL sustainability 2024 to name just two!

When our son was 2 we bought our first family caravan 2005 and I joined the region as an independent member in about 2017 – mainly been secretary and IP Chair.

I started camping out in tents independently from an early age. I progressed through various tents and trailers and campervans. Later we moved on to caravans and motorhomes. For me it is also about the travelling as well as the destinations and activities. We joined the Club in 1988 when our children came along and later were introduced to our local Cheshire Centre. Although my partner and I led very busy lives during the week we were still able to get out on Centre Rallies at weekends and holidays to maintain some family balance. It was refreshing to meet people who worked in very different roles whilst our children grew up with a whole new set of friends
It was some while later we found the time to return the favour and run some rallies of our own and contribute to the work of the Centre’s Committee. Recently we have run events in France and Spain either for our Centre or for the Club nationally and always look forward to meeting new members.

You could say caravanning is in my DNA, my parents had me out in a trailer tent before I could even spell “towbar.” I started life under canvas in a trailer tent, before they upgraded to a caravan soon after. My first rally was back in 1997 with Mum, Dad, and my younger brother, and by 2015 I was rallying in my own right with my wife Nicola, who, fittingly, I met on a rally field many years earlier!
These days, our two kids have caught the rallying bug too, and we get out on the road whenever we can. From weekends in Cheshire to adventures all the way down to Italy, we have clocked up a fair few miles and memories along the way.

I’m currently the Rally Secretary for the Cheshire Centre and proud to serve as a nominated member of the CAMC Council, helping to keep the spirit of caravanning alive and thriving.
